For payday dinner, our family went to Aristocrat in SM San Lazaro, just a short jeepney ride from our house. And of course, we all ordered our favorite, the Boneless Chicken Barbecue.
Some people would normally go for their classic three-piece Chicken Barbecue. But getting the chicken meat off its bones and the skewer can be quite a hassle, so we would just order the boneless one. We’re not lazy, we’re just… Efficient. Hihi.
Aristocrat’s eighty year-old barbecue recipe continues to captivate generations with its homey, nostalgic taste. It’s the kind of barbecue that our own lolas would prepare for that Sunday family brunch. The tender and juicy chicken meat goes so well with the flavorful java rice. Even without the signature java sauce (which I can’t have because it has peanuts 😭), the chicken’s charred goodness is enough for me to take a bite after another, and reach for that extra rice.
One would have to wait 15 minutes (or even 20 during peak dining hours) for the chicken barbecue to be served. Quite a long while, but as the saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.”
